United Arab Investors Co. is Exclusive Sponsor for the Young Arab Leaders Convention
Aligned with its aims to enhance the level of economic literacy enjoyed by entrepreneurs and investors, the United Arab Investors Co. PLC (UAIC) took on the exclusive sponsorship of the Young Arab Leaders' Convention
AMMAN, JORDAN, October 30, 2008 /Accounting PR News/ -- held on Saturday 25 October, 2008 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Amman.
Titled, "Lessons from the Credit Crunch", the one day event was positioned to give its participants an in-depth understanding of the actual dimensions shaping the Sub-Prime mortgage crisis experienced in our world today.
In his welcoming speech, UAIC Board Member and CEO, Mr. Haitham Dahleh said, "The World Mortgage Crisis is not a matter to be taken lightly by firms working in the field, and we, at UAIC, are filled with a great sense of achievement upon granting this opportunity to fellow investors. Being the large-scale investment company that we are, we feel that it is our obligation to know more about the issues affecting our field globally. This event allowed us to do just that, and we are continuously developing ourselves when it comes to keeping pace with the accelerated economical developments."
And on UIAC's participation in the convention, Mr. Dahleh commented "Being key players in local and regional investment fields, we, at UAIC, felt that it was our duty to support events such as this one. I believe that the convention offers a day of enlightenment, knowledge, and economical brainstorming; and on this occasion, I would like to thank Professor. Zaki for the valuable and insightful information he had shared with us today." he added.
Part of UAIC's participation in the convention, was a presentation introducing UAIC's operations and achievements by VP Business Development & Strategic Planning at UAIC, Mr. Hasan Al Bitar. He explained that the Sub-Prime Crisis is an economic problem that became even more apparent in the years 2007 and 2008. This problem is characterized by contracted liquidity in global credit markets and banking systems, which, in turn, causes many Sub-Prime mortgage lenders to fail or file for bankruptcy. They have caused prices in the mortgage-backed markets to collapse, and the resulting situation has had extensive consequences around the world. "It is our duty, as investors, to know, to understand, and to positively act on the implications of what the situation has dictated on us, and the valuable information we had exchanged during this event had allowed us to fulfill this goal," he said.
The event touched on several pressing topics shaping the global economic and investment arenas of today. During the event, attendees were given a comprehensive overview of the world's Sub-Prime mortgage meltdown.
Convention sessions served to give pathology and diagnoses to the world mortgage crisis, while also helping to give a run down of the effects this crisis has on investors. Attendees were given the opportunity to examine real-life case studies at the event in a friendly atmosphere, sharing, at the same time, their personal experiences with experts from the investment and financial fields.
Presiding over the Convention sessions was Investment and Banking Industry Expert and Professor of Corporate Finance, Professor Nabil. Zaki. As a key player in the Investment and Banking industry, Professor Zaki has assumed senior positions in fields relevant to Corporate Finance and Treasury. Throughout his thirty-year career, he had worked with several Wall Street firms, and he assumed managerial positions within international financial institutions in New York, Canada, and the Middle East.
Professor Zaki had held key positions with Chase Manhattan Bank, Merrill Lynch, Prudential Securities and Tradition, and at present, he is an adjunct professor of Corporate Finance and Derivatives at both the New York University, and the New York Institute of Finance. He is also a regular commentator on Al Jazeera, CNN, and CNBC, often reflecting on topics relevant to the fields of portfolio management, risk management, and international capital markets.
It is important to note that UAIC had invited executives from leading financial institutions operating in Jordan namely, Arab Banking Corporation (ABC), Jordan Kuwaiti Bank, BLOM bank, Jordan Commercial Bank (JCBank), the Housing Bank for Trade and Finance, and others to attend the sessions of this informative event.
